Arrests and jail

How criminals get arrested, what they lose, and how long they're locked up.

How you get arrested

As a criminal, there are three ways back to prison:

How What the guard gets
A guard cuffs you Your whole bounty
A guard kills you Half your bounty
You die any other way (a fall, lava, drowning) Nobody gets paid

Cuffing is one right-click with handcuffs, from up to 3 blocks away. Guards can’t cuff you in a hideout or a safe zone. They can cuff you inside the police station, so don’t walk in.

What you lose

  • All your unbanked cash.
  • Your guns and ammo. They don’t drop: they’re gone.
  • Any keycard you’re carrying.
  • Your bounty, which goes back to zero.

Your bank is safe. That’s why you bank your cash at a hideout. See Money and shops.

Your sentence

You’re an inmate again, and you serve your sentence in a cell. It’s 1 minute, plus 1 minute for every $2,500 of bounty, up to 5 minutes. These are the current numbers, and they can change.

Bounty when arrested Sentence
Under $2,500 1 minute
$2,500 2 minutes
$5,000 3 minutes
$7,500 4 minutes
$10,000 or more 5 minutes

In your cell

  • Nothing can hurt you in a cell, not even lava or a fall.
  • Leave the cell and you’re put straight back.
  • Log off, and you’re back in your cell when you return. The clock keeps running while you’re away.
  • You can’t shop, go on duty, open gates, break walls or press the riot alarm.

When your time is up, you’re let out into the prison. Then it’s time to find a way out again. See Escaping.

During a riot

Guards can also cuff inmates inside the prison while a riot is on. That’s a 1-minute sentence. See Riots.
